GUIDE TO SAILING | MAINTENANCE

So you have your new boat, you look cool and feel warm and dry. Now you have to keep it that way.

There tend to be two schools of thought. I have some customers who rarely do anything but the minimum required. Then every 5 years + they sort everything out. This works for some but has the disadvantage of firstly the steadying reduction of enjoyment for you as your boat gets tattier and slower over time and secondly the possibility that what was a cheap repair becomes a major re-build.

The other option is little and often. A regular maintenance schedule can make a big difference to the running cost of a boat and in the long run save you money. Don’t forget to look at our maintenance section to see what we recommend for your sails. Don’t give up an old set of sails until your sailmaker (hopefully us) has looked at them and discussed the options of re-cutting or re-finishing them.
